Artistic Story
I made this sculptural form while daydreaming, without a plan, and only recognized the crab when it was finished. Its armor reminds me of my own defensiveness, but I also associate the crab with nurturing. I’ve been learning to make room for both. I keep returning to the ocean and the strange forms that survive its pressure and darkness, and to what we become after difficult experiences.
Design
Spines spread from the black body beneath a curved handle. The lightweight form is painted by hand, with a fractured surface that catches light along its edges.
Carry & What Fits
Carry it by hand. Its compact interior is designed for smaller personal essentials, such as cards, keys, and earbuds, rather than larger everyday items like a phone.
Dimensions
8.5 inches high × 10 inches wide × 5 inches long.
Materials & Care
A combination of bio poly fibers and durable clay. Protect the projecting spines from hard knocks and drops.
